Open Question: Where's a good company to get a debt consolidation loan in Illinois?

Due to a family tragedy, my husband and I are currently in $26,000 of credit card debt. All of the payments are current and the cards are paid on time with the accounts still open (we are not still charging, though). We are looking to seriously pay this down before the interest eats us alive. My husband wants to take out a bank loan and pay the cards off that way, but I am wondering about the debt consolidation programs you hear about (I know some of those are scams and some are real). Any advice or experience?

Open Question: Who is the best option for debt consolidation?

I have a friend with I believe just over $80K in business/personal (his personal cards are used for business) credit card debt and looking for a solution to help lower the monthly strain on the business. What would be the best solution in this case? He's already looked at some debt consoliation comapnies and feels as though he has no way of knowing for sure if they would work for him. Is this a situation where something other than debt consolidation would be better?

He's looked into the following debt consoliation companies:
http://www.commercialdebtcounseling.com/
http://www.active-debt.com/
http://www.amerassist.com/

Appreciate any advice that can be offered. Thank you.

Open Question: Where's a good company to get a debt consolidation loan in Illinois?

My husband and I are @$20-25,000 in debt w/out including all our monthly biils/groceries etc. This amount doesn't include our debt we're paying off for both our cars. We've already called the companies, and have gotten as many as possible to lower the apr's; we've transferred balances, and are doing automatic payments every month for several credit cards--but really need to get with a reputable place to make one monthly payment (even if we have to pay company interest).

Please help!

Open Question: Im looking for a site that offers free debt consolidations without loans & doesnt want personal info upfront?

I am a single, widowed mother of two who went back to college after my husband died. I also had to file bankrupcy (which would be 9 years ago this year) because there were debts attached to my name that were not my legal responsiblity. Going back to college was a good move but an expensive one. I was unable to pay my credit cards/store cards because of the little or no income I had coming in. Most of my money went to the basics to support myself and my family. After graduatiing (with a teaching degree) I had a hard time finding work in my state (there was a teaching surplus) so I moved out of state 1500 miles for a teaching job. After moving the home I was renting went into foreclosure after only 8 months so I was forced (not by choice) to move again. I am now in a situation where I can finally start catching these bills up and would like one payment a month. Debt consolidation companies won't help because one of the credit cards is in my mom's name. Any suggestion

Open Question: Im looking for a site that offers free debt consolidations without loans & doesnt want personal info upfront?

I would like to consolidate debt loans for my credit card and unsecured loans but every site that i go to wants really personal info upfront like my Social Security Number and address, and none seem very trust worthy. Also i am trying to consolidate my bills without a loan or maybe some other option, i have heard some sites that are not trying to sell you a loan really will get you out of debt with debt management programs and waiveing fees, but most sites only offer you a loan to pay off debt and then you pay back the loan, and that doesnt make sence! I dont want to go into debt trying to get out. If anyone has any responses i would appreciate them or if you have any info on free debt consolidations that are really free and not giving you the run-around, it would be helpful

Open Question: I have good credit but a lot of debt, so I get denied for loans. How do I get approved for a consol. loan?

I have a total of eight credit card accounts. The first one that was opened was in March of 2006 and the most recent ones were opened last year (one in November, one in October). I am trying to pay off my credit card debt which in total amounts to about $5000.00. I have paid off three of my accounts (one with credit limit of $300, two with credit limits of $500 each) and the third account is a Macy's charge account that I do not use and gave in to the sales pressure to save that extra 10% and later returned the merchandise because it was overpriced. Which accounts should I close? The majority of my accounts are maxed right now but am working to pay them all off and become debt free. I know I am not supposed to close my oldest card. But which accounts are acceptable to close? Furthermore, what is the best way to pay off the remainder of my debt efficiently? I got into credit card debt while in college and my credit history is rather short so getting a consolidation loan is out

Open Question: Debt consolidation?

Does anyone know of any good nonprofit debt consolidation companies? I have 2 credit cards and a loan and I need to reduce the payments and interest? Thanks to all in advance.

I have a lot of debt (credit cards, student loan, mortgage) but a decent credit score (about 690). I have never missed a payment but i cannot get approved for a consolidation loan because I have "excessive financial obligations". We haven't owned our house for very long so there is not much equity in it yet. We are paying out the nose on our cards and I just want to lower the payments so we are not living paycheck to paycheck. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Resolved Question: Does using a debt consolidation agency to pay off credit card debt effect your credit score in a negative way?

Okay so after going through paper work to do taxes and getting everything laid out in a spreadsheet I realized that we had a lot more debt than I thought we had.

Combined we have about $65,000 in debt and I really don't want to file for bankruptcy as that will only hurt us more before we can make it better. My goal is to really take care of this ourselves as best as we can.

I have a spreadsheet with everything outlined as far as what we owe. Everything at this point is in collections and right now we have no new credit cards or loans to hurt us more. We have no money in savings but I am working on a new budget that really cuts back on a lot of the things that we have now so that we can get to a place where we have a savings.

I have written a few letters that were sample letters sent to me by a debt consolidation company and she said that is what they use when the communicate with the creditors but it has not owrked out well at all for me thus far.
I know that it is not advisable to call creditors to try to work things out and so far I have had a few of my letters go unanswered. How much information should be shared with them. Should they be notified that other debts exist? Should I threaten bankruptcy? If there was a big medical diagnosis that was part of the problem and now part of the debt should that be revealed? Should unemployment or disability be information that you share with them? Does any of that information help to sway them in one direction or the other? I am thinking that I will try to rewrite the letters that were sent to me but want to know how much I should personalize them.
If anyone has any information on books to check out or websites to check out that would have more information on cleaning up debt and credit scores or even better yet settlements and what works and what doesn't that would be greatly appreciated.

We are in a spot where by the end of the year we will need to be buying a new car and then as soon as possible after I am done with school we would like to be able to afford to buy our own place but it wont happen the way our credit scores are right now.
All of the debts have been accrued within the last 4 years thanks to layoffs and medical issues. I appreciate the comment about statutes of limitations and I have looked into that and it is a great suggestion. For the most part I know that what we have is what we have. If I were to call and talk to them would I then also follow up with something in writing to get their signature agreeing to what we had discussed on the phone then?
it isn't that we want to buy a new car but we will be needing a new car and I dont mean brand new but new to us that will run.
I am not looking for smart ass comments but more comments from people who have perhaps been in similar situations and have some helpful advice to offer. If that isn't you then please just skip my question.

Voting Question: How do i get my credit card company to cancel my debt?

i owe $16000 on my 4 credit cards all with chase and cant even make my minimum payment on any card. i lost my job and my wife is 2 months pregnant and i need help. i called a credit consolidation place, but they just want to add more and more fees. please help me i need real advise. thank you and god bless

Resolved Question: Anyone paying 22% interest on a bill consolidation loan with Bank of America?

2 years ago I decided to take a loan (wanted to combine credit cards take a loan to pay off the debt)offer that I received in the mail from Bank of America. I assumed with my excellent credit I would get a great interest rate however as careful as I was the rate turned out to be 22% which is extremely high with my excellent credit. I took a $25,000 loan which I pay 592.00 a month (I always pay more) that I now learned I have to pay for 96 months which totals to be $56,832, I am so upset and not sure what I can do to get rid of this huge debt, any advise for this debt that is worse now than had I simply paid the credit cards off?? Thank you

I have debt, I'm ashamed to admit it. I'm in way over my head and most of it is credit cards. I don't know how to get myself out of it. I need help form another source. I wanted to work with a debt consolidation company but I'm wary that I'll get ripped off. I asked the bank to help with a loan but I have too much unsecured debt so they won't approve me. I own a house but I can't take out a home equity because I had to use that to buy my ex husband out of the house. I just want to pay off my debt but it's getting harder with the credit card intrest rates I don't know what to do.
The credit card companies do not want to do anything to help you out. I just talked to one of mine (HSBC) who is charging me 31% interest and basically they were like, F*** you sorry. It was like trying to push a brick wall. I told them that I really needed help I even talked to a supervisor. I said can't afford my payments with that kind of interest rate and I'd have to file for bankruptcy and they said well if that's what you have to do. I said wouldn't you rather work with me and get paid or me filing for bankruptcy and you not getting any money and they were like oh well. It doesn't make sense. Credit card companies will not work with you I have tried with Chase, Citi and now HSBC they simply don't care. Also I have good credit I've made a few late payments because I'm struggling financially right now but my credit is good--I was just told that by my bank a week and a half ago. Good credit gets me 31% interest at HSBC and 24% interest at Chase. What's up with that?

Resolved Question: Debt consolidation... Whats best for me?

I have about $4400 of debt in collections. 9 of my 11 collections accounts are medical. The other 2 ($716) accounts are sprint and brighthouse. My wife and I are trying to build my credit up so that we will be able to buy a house in the near future. As of right now I dont have any "good" credit. The only things I have in my credit file are collections. I do not currently have anything that needs to be paid regularly(car, credit card, mortgage, etc.). I dont have the Money to pay off all of these people, but i want to.

I have heard that a debt consolidation loan would pay off all of these collection accounts and I would only have to pay the loan back, and at the same time, instantly clear up all the negative account information on my credit file.

Id like to know what to look out for when looking for this type of loan. I would also like to hear any success stories that you have with this type of loan.

Thanks for your time!

Resolved Question: College debt has ruined my life, and I'm mad at myself for leting it happen.?

I am beginning to regret going to college, it seems the only thing I have attained from it, is debt. When I went to school I was allured to the dream of being an airline pilot. I finally got my pilot’s license, but it got to expensive, so I switched to Aviation Management. I am so depressed and mad at myself for letting this happen, and it seems like there is no way out. A few times I forgot to fill out the FAFSA so I had to take out loans to cover the expenses, or I was late getting it in and got no money.

Here’s where I am at:
1 Loan for $50,000 (Monthly Payments of 476/mo); 1 Loan for $21620 (Monthly Payments of 128); 1 Loan for $7800 (Monthly Payments of 50), and Credit Card Debt of about $3000. So I have loans totaling $79420.

I also have a car payment, cell phone, however I pay no rent, but my grandparents will soon be asking for that.

I just got a new job that pays me $35000 per year. So if I don’t put anything into savings I can pay off my loans in about 4 years, however when you begin to figure in my other expenses it’s more like 7 years.

Consolidation is not really an option, because the $50000 is an “Education Alternative Loan”, it’s not a federal loan. The $7800 loan is a no interest loan. And the $21620 is a direct federal loan.

-My dilemma is that, I have a girlfriend that I want to begin a life with. I wish to get an apartment with her maybe in the next year or so. And I want to marry her.

Situation 1- Do I put no money into savings and just tackle the loans head on? I will have no money for retirement or a down payment on a house.

Situation 2- I put some money aside into savings, and it will take longer to pay off?

Situation 3- Declare bankruptcy if I can?

I apologize for this taking so long, but I don’t know what to do. Thank you for your help.

Resolved Question: Credit card question...?

Starting off w/Christmas gifts one year, then having to move & needing money to do that & money to buy things needed, then buying things I needed for my & my mother's health, etc...is how it started & has since escalated. I started getting credit card & at first, payments weren't so bad. I started buying groceries w/the CC's, when we were low on money & now it's all crept up on me. "Introductory offers" are now expiring & the "no payment for 90 days" offers are up. So now my payments are doubling! I thought my income tax could help, but I discovered my job had been taking out the wrong # of exemptions on me ALL year, so I'm not getting but a couple hundred dollars back (I had 2 chng jobs, making less money, never had a problem b4 & honestly, never looked @ check stubs 2 notice earlier). So I chngd my W4, nw my chks r gng 2 be even LESS! HELP! I need 2 do something. What route is BEST? & how can I find the Best help, for which ever option is best? Thanks!

Resolved Question: Does anyone know a good consolidation company for consolidating credit card debt?

Resolved Question: Is debt consolidation a good idea under my circumstances?

After my parents divorced, at 18 I was left with paying for thing I didn't pay before. Slapped with medical bills and living expenses, I turned to credit cards. I had 3 credit cards. my debt is now around 2,000. i tried working out payment plans with my creditors, but with three of them, it's very difficult. i am 20 years old, full time student, making 5.85/hr. i am looking for a new job so i can up the payments that i have arranged with my consolidated debt. but i just can't afford to bring all of the cards' balances' up to date. so i figured this was the best solution for me. even if i payed all of them off now (which is impossible) my credit would still be screwed. i realize that good credit is important, but i am more concerned about being able to pay to go to the doctor, or having gas for my car.

Resolved Question: Credit card question...?

I was considering going to one of those consolidation places to help me lower my credit card debt. But people keep telling me that it looks bad on your credit report.
I would like to know what it is out there to help with credit card debt and still be able to maintain a decent credit score?

Thanks in advance
Angi

Resolved Question: Is there somewhere i can get a debt consolidation loan online? High interest is fine.?

Where is this company based? I've been trying to research them and all that comes up is their hastily slapped together website with no accreditations of any kind. Has anyone else been contacted by them and conned into signing a contract? They claim to be a debt consolidation company,

My advice to anyone with credit card debt getting unsolicited calls from DCC's is to contact the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. Ignore the calls from these types of people and DO NOT give them any personal info. I went thru their intake and they have my SSN and credit card #. I have yet to see what the fallout will be. Has anyone else had a negative experience with this company? I want details.

Resolved Question: should i wait to file bankruptcy until after i am sued and a judgement is placed against me?

i have a credit card that i got behind on, now its been 2 years and a lawyer has contacted me t find out if i want to settle out of court or get sued. i tried debt consolidation but can't afford the payments with them and they recommended i file chapter 7.

Resolved Question: Is there somewhere i can get a debt consolidation loan online? High interest is fine.?

I have 5 credit cards, a loan, medical bills, and a dental bill, all adding up to around $7,500 dollars. Which isn't too much but obviously my life has become trying to make min. payments to pay these bills. Before some really bad turn of events happened, i paid all my bills on time and saved money, and was very responsible. I don't need money mgmnt. counseling. I've had my car repo'd, ( it was on my grandparents credit), so i could afford these bills. I don't intend on having a car until i pay them, i don't buy things i don't need, i don't waste money, AT ALL. But nothings helping, i have no family to help me, no friends with money, my family is the reason i am in this mess. I live alone , pay rent ,and utilities, small town, no hope for a roommate. I DO understand the cons of a high interest loan. I need it to save my credit. 2 minimum payments are seriously past due, they are about to write me off, horribly scarring my credit for years!

Voting Question: How do you tell or know if a debt consolidation company is legitimate?

I am now currently 22 1/2 years of age .. Been working since 15 years old .. At 18 I got crazy and got 3 department store credit cards which we all know is the WORST!! At the time I didn't think credit was important .. I got a car and paid that instead of my credit cards .. now I'm stuck!!

My debt is not large .. its only at 3500.00 but I am a stay at home mom and on a tight budget. I want to get a consolidation loan however with out a paycheck coming in, in my name .. no one will give me a loan. Any suggestions???

After paying my bills (rent, lights, cable, car loan, husbands cc and saving some "for a rainy day") I have a spare of 200.00 every month ... and I also sell on ebay here and there.

I am getting collection calls .. but everyone wants it in full or a higher amount that I could afford monthly and is not willing to help me.
My husband is a police officer that shifts change every month .. one month he works mornings, next month he works afternoons, and the next month he works midnight .. so me getting a part time job is out of the question :(

And day care where I live is beyond control .. my whole pay check would go to them.
Can't sell the car .. my husband use it for work .. here where I live you use your own cars for police work.
Don't have any more credit cards ... I can't gete approve for NOTHING at all :*(

Voting Question: How do you tell or know if a debt consolidation company is legitimate?

I have been to consumer credit counseling and they advised me to file for bankruptcy. I could lose my job if I do this. Several debt companies have been contacting me saying they can help me (then why couldn't the CCCS?). Anyway, I have told the credit card companies that I've been advised to file for bankruptcy, but NONE will work with me. Don't understand why I have to go through a third party and pay them. I am just afraid of getting ripped off by one of these places. There were some that were ruining people and these people had wished they had filed for bankruptcy instead of using the debt company.

Voting Question: Debt Payoff?

Does anyone know the best way to go about getting debt consolidation advice? I don't qualify for any sort of loan, but I really need help with my debt, I just bought a house and due to fix ups on it my credit cards are maxed out and I can't seem to get them to go down. Does anyone have any advice? Or ideas on how to fix up an old house without sucking your wallet dry?

Resolved Question: credit card debt?

Has any one ever used a consolidation company for credit card debt? Dose it hurt your credit? How does it work anyone know?

My fiance and I have about $50000 in combined debt. The debt consists of credit card debt, medical bills, and simial accounts. We currently live paycheck to paycheck. How can we go about paying off the debts? I have a spreadsheet that I have created listing the debts, interest rates, and what not. I am not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing that everything is between 3 and 4 years old and in collections. We would like to have the debt payed off before we get married and would like to be able to look into purchasing some property in the Spring of next year. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We do not want to have to turn to any kind fof debt consolidation, we would like to do it ourselves for so many reasons.
I guess what I am looking for is how best to contact the ceditors. Is it best to talk to them over the phone or in writing? How like likely is it that they would be willing to negotiatiate with me and come to some sort of settlement amount? Is there somewhere on line that I can find sample letters that have worked for others to settle debts?
