Resolved Question: How much taxes will I pay given my $150K income in Philadelphia? And how much rent can I afford?
I filled my taxes yesterday (2/1/08) (at hr block) and to my surprise I was not approved for a RAL; I thought that this was odd, b/c this was the first time I was denied the RAL.
Anyway, I recieved a call back from HR block today saying my refund was denied due to federal reasons; they couldnt provide me w/ any info as to why. So I checked the status of my return on their website. I got the following message when I put in my social
"The IRS has accepted your return. Due to a prior year issue or other obligation the IRS is indicating that your refund may be delayed. Please call the Treasury Department at 1-800-304-3107 for more details."
So I called the above number and it was an automated system--I got a recording saying that my return would be offset b/c of a student loan I had through AES.
I have payment arrangements on this loan (it is in collections) I didnt think they would still garnish my return? I'm positive that this has to be what it is. Any advice?
Well,
I called the IRS and it looks like the student loan was what it was. She said I should have the remainder of my refund within 3 weeks. I too paid for the RAL :(
Resolved Question: How much taxes will I pay given my $150K income in Philadelphia? And how much rent can I afford?
I'm going to be graduating grad school soon and will be working in Philadelphia, PA. Because I've never made good money before, I have no idea what I'll be paying in federal, city, and state taxes, and can't figure out what I can afford to pay for rent. I'll be making $145K salary plus $2.5K-10K bonus. Can a Philadelphian (or someone else familiar) tell me how much I can anticipate having deducted? I've been told it's anywhere from 30-50%. And, being a single independent w/ $16K student loans at 6.25% over 30 years (which I think I should pay off early?!?!?), what is reasonable to spend on rent? This is my first time using the Questions function--Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
