Open Question: If I need private student consolidation, than which will be better then salliemae.?

My husband has a 40k student loan that we have to start paying off next month. Our payments are over 500 a month ( i don't know how anyone is expected to save anything with that kind of payment). We have 10k of that money that we had in a CD that we will be paying back to try to bring down the amount. Is there any other FINANCIALLY SMART way to bring down the interest rates? I dont necessarily want to use one of those consolidation companies, bc it seems like a scam and i will be paying a lot more in the end. We are smart people with no other debts that just want to find the best way to handle these loans without falling into any traps.

Thanks for your advice.
no where even close to a million, he works in a grocery store. He went to grad school and it is extremely expensive here.

Resolved Question: If you consolidate your student loan does this affect your credit?

What is loan consolidation and how does this affect your future credit score?

Thanks

I have a few loans from Sallie Mae. I would like to consolidate them into one loan, hopefully at a lower interest rate. Does anyone have any suggested companies that you have dealt with for student loan consolidation?

Voting Question: Which is the best student loan consolidation for me?

I'm looking for a company that offers a low interest rate, yet affordable payments. Right now I'm about $70,000 in debt with student loans and my monthly bills come out to around $700.

Right now I only make $10.50/hr (work about 37 hours a week) and have been desperately trying to find a new job.

Which company offers the best package?

Open Question: Can I do a debt consolidation (not including student loans)and still be able to get student loans for next yr?

<a target="_blank" href="

private student loan consolidation is necessary then what consolidation company will be better? I mean which will be better than Sallie Mae.

At the time the first loan was taken out (it was for around 4,000 and it was to a school that was a scam, but they got away with itbecause they knew the ins and outs of pulling off their scam very well. . so I'm asking about applying for another loan / consolidation, not discussing the previous one.

Voting Question: Can you apply for a student loan after debt consolidation?

The short version: I've got considerable student load debt that I simply cannot afford the monthly payments on. I've tried all the usual ideas for fixing this, ie. forbearance, consolidation, etc. The bulk of my loans are through Sallie Mae and anytime you try calling them you talk to 15 different people who barely speak English and tell you 15 different things. I am very willing to repay these I simply can't afford it along with my consumer debt (which is in a debt management program), rent, other bills, etc.

What kind of professional should I talk to? An accountant? A banker? A lawyer? I need help and don't know where to turn.

Resolved Question: Student loan consolidation?

I applied for rates with 3 banks to get the best offer for student loan consolidation. About 60 days passed and I received a payment booklet from BofA. They had paid my student loans and began charging me at a higher rate than I had before. I never agreed nor signed a promise to pay or anything - just filled out an online application. What do I do now? They are on my credit report, they are charging me, I have not paid them anything. I don't want to as Chase offered me a better deal. I asked BofA to provide me proof that I owe this debt yet they have not. Its for over $30k. Since I never signed anything (just did the online application) do I really owe them anything?

Resolved Question: Looking for a student loan consolidation with excellent customer service. Any recs? I hate Sallie Mae.?

My student loans got sold to Sallie Mae. I hate their terrible customer service and the fact that their customer service people barely speak English. Has anyone had really great luck with another big company?

Voting Question: Can you apply for a student loan after debt consolidation?

Resolved Question: Getting out of Bad Credit. Getting a loan to pay off my debt and just focus on that one laon? Is it possible?

I'm specifically looking for answers from people who are currently experiencing trouble paying off student loans due to the complicated process of/restrictions with consolidation, rising interest rates, etc. -- not just abstract, theoretical ideas. Thanks!

Voting Question: Student loan consolidation?

I applied for a private student loan consolidation from Sallie Mae but they said I didnt meet their credit requirements. Which is weird because I have a cosigner who has great credit. I do not know where to turn next or who is a good company to consolidate my loans. I know that I need this to get done ASAP because I have already started making payments of almost $400 a month!! Any advice?

Resolved Question: Getting out of Bad Credit. Getting a loan to pay off my debt and just focus on that one laon? Is it possible?

So I think I'm not quite in debt like some people I've heard talk about themselves being $10,000 or more in debt. I'm approximately $3,400 in debt to 2 credit cards, 1 apartment for damages after we moved out, 1 for Directv, 1 for my cell phone, and I owe my local preist about $350. At t he time I was going through such a financial mayhem and I wasn't able to pay any of my bills. I was doing fine with everything until I quit school, the money stop coming and my job wasn't enough. Does anyone know how to get out of debt. I have a job now but I'm so busy paying for my current bills, my 2 stepson's tuition, my college tuition, & my daughter's needs. I'm no one to complain of my husband because he's a full time student and full time father to the children while I'm the financial supporter and part time student. I think my husband getting a job would help but then again I strongly support his education. I heard that debt consolidation is only going to worsen things and I'm avoiding that. ??

Resolved Question: Where is the best place to consolidate student loans?

I seem to have 3 payments coming up
Jan 22
Feb 14
April 04

Now I dnt mind paying them back , But the interest rates are way High . I dn't know what was going on , because i don't know how to put this , but I was going thru a rough time during college. I had no friends , no social life and isolated. I was going through depression . Good thing I found out a year ago what had happened to me , So now I am trying to get my life straight starting with my credit/a job/ moving out and finally being debt free and following my intuitions.

The student loan thing doesn't seem to be helping much in my "being free" idea , because I called every one of these corporations ( Citi bank , Sallie Mae , and my federal loan consolidation company )
On average I would have to pay for 15-25 years before all this debt is being paid off. Do you have a similar situation or is mine really unique . I am trying to get a clearer picture because
most of my papers and applications were filled out by my parents_
and brother , which I hated , because they controlled my life , I was clueless of what was going on which now I am trying to get out of..

Resolved Question: how do i get a federally backed consolidation of my student loans?

i have a lot of loans from college weighing me down and i need to get them consolidated. however, the catch is, i need a federally backed consolidation so that the army will in turn accept those for payment (i am enlisted and want my college loans to go away).

Resolved Question: Can you receive one loan for home purchase and debt consolidation?

I would lke to know if there is a type of loan that will allow you to consolidate credit cards, personal loans, and purchase a home at the same time. I am currently a graduate student with student loans as well.

Voting Question: Student Loan Consolidation?

My GF has undergraduate student loans and she's paying about $400 a month.

What group is the best to use to consolidate these loans into a smaller payment... and also... how much could she expect the payment to go down to?

Resolved Question: Where is the best place to consolidate student loans?

I've just finished school, and my BA and MA loans are due this spring. Where can I go to get a fair consolidation deal?

Resolved Question: Consolidation of Student Loans (private and government)?

	My debt is as follows:
Student Loans: approximately 25k
Credit Card : 5,500
Car Loan: 8k

I am about to enter my 3rd year in my first "real job" after college- and i think its time to get ahold of my finances. I am no longer taking loans (obviously) or using my credit card.. and my each religiously monthly.

But.. ive heard about debt consolidation loans and im confused:

1. do they lower your monthly payment?
2. Do they negatively affect your credit?

If someone could explain what they are, if theyd be good for me, pros and cons etc id really appreciate it!

thanks!

Resolved Question: HELP! out of control debt, what should I do?

I am a young single girl who has racked up A LOT of personal debt in the last few years, by basically being an idiot and trying to live a lifestyle I couldn't afford. I have stopped spending on any credit card, and am living on a cash basis completely. I have a good, well paying full time job, and a part time waitressing job, and I am also a college student. I have a car payment, and personal loan, and four credit cards! (two of which I am over 90 days past due on).
I don't want to ruin my credit any more than I already have...but I don't know what to do. I don't make enough money.
Is there any way I could make extra money?
Is one of those credit score ruining consolidation programs really my only hope?
I really wanted to do this on my own...
Please Help!

My parents have a credit score above 720 and mine is lower (620s), so I want to ask them if they'll co-sign a consolidation loan for my student loan debt ($89,000). How much will it affect their credit score if they cosign? I've never made a payment late or gone over the limit on my cards, I just don't have a very long credit history.
teriod: You'd think $89000 in school debt would mean getting a good job, wouldn't you? It's actually my husband that has the debt and he went to one of those "for-profit" career schools that's not even regionally accredited, so all he can get is a job that pays $10.50 an hour. I wish I'd had control of our finances when he decided to go to that horrible school, I would've told him to just go to a state university- better education for a fraction of the price. Oh well, that's life.

Voting Question: What happens when you stop paying your credit cards?

So I've done some research and I know all of the consequences of walking away from credit card debt. But I am not sure what I should do. I know many people have asked this same question and were told to get credit counseling. I've also looked into that and most places charge a fee which I can't afford to pay. I've also looked into debt consolidation loans, which I am not eligible for. I've even called my credit card companies and asked for a lower interest rate and was denied. I can't afford to get an attorney.

This is my situation. I was young and dumb got a bunch of credit cards. I think I have about $4,500 in credit card debt. I try to pay more then the minimum payment monthly but my interest rates have increased & I cannot afford the monthly payments. I also have student loans & a bank loan that I pay on as well. Those loans are obviously more important then my credit cards.

I pay on these cards and the balance never goes down. I don't even use the cards anymore, it doesn't make a difference.

Any HELPFUL suggestions or advice from personal experience is appreciated.

I have a car loan at one bank and student loans at another lender. Is there anyway to get one bank to consolidate these loans?

Resolved Question: SQL Management Studio - Unable to Open 3.5 CE DBs?

So, having multiple degrees doesn't stop you from making stupid decisions. I made some very poor decisions related to college loans.

I'm currently finishing grad school, but not a full-time student anymore, so my loans all went into repayment. Working part-time so I still have time to do research requirements. Long story, short: I have MANY loans and never consolidated--got overwhelmed by the payments and ended up 60 days late. Nonetheless, this is now reflected on my credit report. My score dropped about 130 points because of this. It took me YEARS to get my credit bordering between the Good/Excellent range, so I am extremely dissappointed in myself. I know this was stupid.

Anyway, my question - if I consolidate now, will that lead to any improvement in my credit score? Will my 15+ loan marks of "60 days late" just go to one, or won't this make a difference? I will consolidate regardless, but am wondering if this could make any positive change in my score.

Resolved Question: Major Debt- any suggestions or solutions?

Okay, here's the deal- i have major credit debt- including school loans, old credit cards, charged off bank accounts, doctor bills, etc. My debt maybe totals $7,500. I made a deal with my cc to pay $100 a month, but sometimes i'm not even able to do that. My student loans will start being required to be paid in January- but i don't have any kind of degree. I'm stuck in a dead-end job making $10.50 an hour.
Anyone know if the credit consolidations go against your credit or is it really just help with no consequences? I need some serious help- i'm horrible with money.....
thanks, but i owe the Library $50 for overdue books and they won't let me take any books out til i pay them... i told you i'm in a mess.... :(

	Hi there

I have a VS2008 project with a CE3.5 database. I am unable to open this database within SQL 2005 Management Studio only VS2008. Any way of updating the CE engine for Management Studio?

Resolved Question: debt consolidation with good credit?

I have a lot of loans and credit card debt that I have to pay separately each month. The payments range from $40 a month to $80 a month.

I have the following loans/credit card debt:
- Student Loan A = $2000, $40 payment each month
- Student Loan B = $4000, $0 payment each month
- Car Loan = $3000, $80 payment each month
- Credit Card A = $1100, $60 payment each month (max. = $1500)
- Credit Card B = $650, $60 payment each month (max. = $750)
* It totals about $11000 in total debt I need to pay off.

I want to get a loan for about $12000 somewhere and pay all my loans off immediately and just pay the one payment a month. I'd try to pay this loan off in 6 months, hoping the new job I'm getting pays well enough. I'd also cancel one of the credit cards once they are paid off.

Will this hurt my credit, or will it eventually make it better if I make all my payments on time? Also, is this possible?

Resolved Question: Advice on student loan consolidation?

I have loans through AES, Sallie Mae, and Citibank. I know how to consolidate them separately, but is there any way that I can make all three into one big loan so I'm only making one payment a month? Will AES buy out my private loans? Or can I somehow get at least one of the privates to buy out the other so I'm only making two payments? I know I need to call them, but I'm hard of hearing and it makes it very difficult to understand them on the phone. I'd like to go into the calls knowing as much as possible so that I get less confused. Any help would be appreciated!

Resolved Question: Student loan consolidation and credit cards?

I graduated a few months ago from college and am starting a new job in a few weeks. I've been going through my finances and looking into consolidating my student loans (about $35K). All of my student loans are alternative student loans, but can be consolidated. Unfortunately, for the last year of my degree program, I had to rely on credit cards for what the loans didn't cover, leaving me with some substantial credit card debt also. Is it possible to consolidate my credit card balances with my student loan consolidation. I would rather make one large payment on everthing instead of making smaller payments on all the different loans.

Resolved Question: debt consolidation with good credit?

my husband and i have a combined debt of 65k with student loans and credit card debt combined. we both have credit scores in the 690's so obviously we do not want to do anything to get it any lower. would debt consolidation hurt us in the long run. if so what are some better options?
most of our cards are at low interest rates, but the minimums are HIGH.

Resolved Question: Student Loan Consolidation question:-College Cost Reduction & Access Act of 2007?

I'm a college student in my junior year. I live in an area where most businesses are student-friendly and flexible with hours, but I cannot get a job that pays a high enough amount to cover cost of living. My parents pay tuition and books, but I pay everything else-phone, car insurance, untilities, rent, groceries, gas, etc. My problem is that I'm in debt-about $2000-but I can't keep up with any payments. Currently, I make enough to make rent and utilities and I basically don't eat. I don't qualify for foodstamps, but my credit has become so bad that I don't qualify for any credit cards. My parents will not cosign a student loan, so I don't qualify for one & they make enough money that I don't qualify for FAFSA.
I'm considering declaring bankruptcy but I don't really understand what that means. I've looked around a little online& found debt consolidation sites & even someone that says you can convince the credit companies/agencies to take $700 for a $1000 debt. Opionions/help plz
The buses don't run enough for me to not use my car and I've already cut my phone usage back to nothing but emergencies. Most of my debt is gas (to get around and to go home for holidays) and groceries. I've stopped going out a long time ago because my bills were piling up but I can't seem to catch a break or get any help.My parents said I got myself in this mess and I need to figure it out myself. The thing is, I qualify for the state to pay for my classes, so if they had just said they'd pay even part of my rent I wouldn't have had to get credit cards just to feed myself!
Sorry if that sounds rant-y but that's how i feel. I understand that they just wanted me to learn financial responsibility, but I haven't had any kind of allowance since i was 10 and have been buying toiletries, shampoo, clothing, and lunch/food for school, and school supplies for myself since I was 13. I know it sounds ungrateful, but i just resent it when kids say "its okay my dad/mom pays the bill on this:
I have filled out the FAFSA forms every semester since I started college and am always mailed back a letter saying I don't qualify.

I don't have a long enough or good enough credit history to get a student loan without a cosigner

What, if any, impact does this have on recent graduates with existing student loans in terms of consolidation? I have not yet consolidated and am wondering if there's an advantage/disadvantage to doing so now vs in the future.

I have filed everything the company (Direct Loans) has asked for including a police report,
notarized signatures of my signature, copy of my drivers license and SS card. The forged signature is so sloppy that a first grader could tell its not mine. I have also went to the Federal Omnibudsman and the Inspector general over this to no avail. I have been told to get an attorney to sue tham but I will have more in attroney fees to fight it then whats its worth. And there is no guarantee that I will get arttorney fees if I do win. Does anyone know of a court case that I could look up to read so I can file the suit myself? Or how I could resolve this?

Resolved Question: Student loan debt question?

I'll be graduating this summer with about $17k in student loan debt. I've accumulated about $3k in savings so far, and I'm hoping to save another $3k for by the time I graduate (I work full time and still live at home).
My question is what's the best way to approach the loan debt? First, none of my loans are consolidated yet. All but one $3500 loan is subsidized. Finally, I'd like to move out of mom's basement sometime in the next six months.
Given that, should I look into consolidation? Should I dump a chunk of my savings into the loans to pay them down quickly? Should I jsut stick with the minimum monthly payments and save my pennies?
